There were plenty of great studio films this past year, with “Inception,” “The Fighter,” “True Grit,” & “The Social Network”.
But there were plenty of off-the-grid gems in 2010 as well, movies too freaky and daring for marketers to encapsulate in easily digested categories. Last year I saw lots that made me think, laugh and dream, but were generally overlooked and stuck in limited release. Here is my short list of under-appreciated gems, many already streaming on Netflix that should be atop any film geek’s video-on-demand queue. Like mine.
I'd like to give a special THANK YOU to The Salt Lake Film Society, out of the 12 below listed films, I was able to see 10 of them because of the society and the work they do to bring great, under the radar, independent, low-budget films to Salt Lake City. I highly encourage anyone who gets the opportunity to see a film at either The Broadway Theater or The Tower Theater in Salt Lake City.
